Filter Cloth is the material of filtration process. Filter cloth is Manufactured of woven or non woven fabrics of fiber,cotton or wool. The woven filter cloth is knitted as typical cloth, but non woven is sediment ed.Non woven filter cloth is usually manufactured by putting small fibers in the form of sheet or web and then bonding them either mechanically or chemically with an adhesive. Non woven filtration fabric is less robust, it can be tear very easily. The woven type of filter cloth is robust than non woven.
Filter cloth's strength is calculated for tensile and bursting strength. Filtration degrees are secondary to the strength measurements. Liquid filters are those who found in oil filtration system, are measured for strength and filtration capacity also. The flow of liquid is Calculated in pounds per square. Tensile strength is also considered in pounds. The specific of measurements is depend upon the type of fabric and the use of the fabric. An absolute rating of 10 microns does not imply a robust filter.
Now a days filter cloth is available in different colors and sizes relating to the requirements.Measurement of filtration degree of filter cloth is done in microns. Micron is similar word to micro meter. The micron is the smallest scale on which filter cloth performs filtration process. Rating of 10 microns mean that the filter can catch particles that have diameter of 10 micro meter. typically human hair's diameter is about 70 micrometer. Mostly bacteria are between 1 to 10 microns.
Capability of Filter Cloth:-
The effectiveness of a filter cloth denotes accuracy of filtration degree. An efficiency level of 50% at 10 microns means that filter will capture half of all particles 10 microns in size, which is a normal rating. If a filter is able to filter 98% or higher of the measured micron level. Good filters should have a high-efficiency rating for the size elements that are mean to be filtered. Liquid filters having absolute rating at 10 microns are known as very effective filters.

Bursting Strength (ASTM D 751) 100 psi.min.
Equivalent Opening Size (EOS) minimum 40, and maximum 100
Type B filter cloth is a woven or non woven. It matches the following standards.
Grab Tensile Strength(ASTM D 1682) 200lbs.min.
Bursting Strength(ASTM D 751) 500psi min.
Type C filter cloth is woven or non woven. It meets the following standards.
Grab Tensile Strength(ASTM D 1682) 200lbs.minimum.
Grab Tensile Elongation(ASTM D 1682) 30 percent maximum.
Bursting Strength (ASTMD 751) 290 psi minimum
Trapezoid Tear Strength(ASTM D 1117) 50 lbs.minimum
Puncture Strength(ASTM D 751) 75lbs. Minimum(using 5/15 flat tipod pod)
Water permeability(AASHTO 288) 0.001 cm/sec. Minimum (5 cm constant head)

In hygiene filter cloth is used in baby nappies,feminine hygiene, adult incontinence solutions,wet wipers, bandages and injury dressings.
In medical area filter cloth is used in isolation gowns,surgical gowns,surgical drapers and covers,surgical scrub suits and surgical masks.
In engineering field filter cloth is used filtration system of gasoline,oil and air,coffee or tea bags, medicine laboratories,refineries and food processing plants.
As a Geo-textile it is used in soil stabilizers,erosion check,canals construction,drainage systems etc.
